Situated in the bay between mainland Miami and Miami Beach, the Venetian Islands is a series of six islands that are connected through a series of roads.
The islands were built in the early 20th century; the first roads that connecting the islands were made of wood and funded by Miami legends Carl G. Fisher and John S. Collins. The islands and the accompanying road were critical for the development of the area as it made Miami Beach accessible by road for the first time as before it was only accessible by ferry.
The six residential islands in the area include Belle, Rivo Alto, Di Lido, San Marino, San Marco, and Biscayne. In addition, there is the small Monument Island which was created as a memorial for railroad pioneer Henry Flagler; that island is only accessible by boat.
Because the islands are situated in the middle of Biscayne Bay, many of the homes in this area have stunning views of the bay.
